There is a bustling, vibrant atmosphere at the accreditation center of the Pan American Masters Games. Athletes from all corners of the world are arriving, each one adding a unique flavour to this grand sporting event.

Donald Edward Widener participates in two sports, Tennis and Pickleball: “I’m competing at my first Masters Games event. I grew up here in Cleveland so it’s great to be back!” When we ask him what sport does for him he has a very clear answer: “It gives me fitness, movement and camaraderie. But I’m here to get on the podium, I will compete for a gold medal!” We believe he has the best cheering squad with him to try to achieve that, consisting of his wife, his sister and brother in law.

The accreditation center is full of activity, as athletes of various nationalities and ages gather to collect their credentials and welcome packs. Athletes are customising their clothing items from the merchandising stand. There’s a sense of camaraderie as seasoned competitors and newcomers alike share their stories and experiences. The diversity of the participants is a testament to the unifying power of sports, showcasing a blend of cultures and traditions.

Johnaiah Watts and Vignyanand Racherla are competing in the Archery competition: “We’ve participated last year in Korea at the Asia Pacific Masters Games and I’m finally living my lifelong dream of competing in Archery. After pursuing my work career I wanted to do something for myself. I still get that adrenaline rush every time I release the arrow. It’s wonderful to notice I’m inspiring my daughter who started Archery at 4 years old – she sees that no matter what, things can be done !”

Volunteers and organisers efficiently guide the athletes through the registration process. The welcome backpacks, thoughtfully curated, include everything from event schedules, water bottles to caps making each participant feel valued and appreciated.

The energy is electric, with cheers and laughter as old friends reunite and new friendships form. The Pan American Masters Games will officially kick off tomorrow promising great vibes and an unforgettable experience for all involved.
