John Lockwood loves training and competing in Taekwondo and enjoys travelling to the different events to meet competitors from other countries.
As an adult of 51 years old, John Lockwood knows what he likes and he’s living his life focusing on what brings him joy and makes his heart tick. He starts training almost daily around 8-10 months before an event and until now has participated in the Masters Games in Lignano 2011, Torino 2013, Nice 2015, Penang 2018, Jeonbuk 2023, Tampere 2023 and now looking forward to Taipei: “The community spirit at these Games is amazing, there’s nothing like it!”
He says: “Just because someone hits 35 years old it doesn’t mean they have to stop doing a sport they love.” He believes in good training, surrounding yourself with good coaches and aiming for a healthy life and diet with good recovery after training. He’s training harder now than ever before, he wants to show up to give his best performance possible: ” The events are so well organised, it’s really great to get involved.”
I’m now already preparing for the World Masters Games and it would be amazing to win a medal there. Hopefully a gold medal to follow up on my gold medal in Korea and my silver and gold medals in Tampere.
The IMGA Masters Games are open to all and we invite everyone to come and enjoy a sport to have fun with like-minded adults and discover new cities, cultures and indulge yourself in an amazing new experience.
