The vibrant city of Tampere opened its arms to hundreds of athletes from across Europe and the world as the 2023 European Masters Games kicked off in spectacular fashion. The accreditation centre at Ratina Stadium buzzed with excitement as athletes eagerly registered and prepared for their respective events.

The action-packed journey began on the first day with the commencement of the Judo competition. Athletes showcased their skill and technique, setting the bar high for the days to come.

 

The second day witnessed the continuation of Judo, accompanied by the commencement of Archery, Basketball, Disc Golf, Orienteering, and Padel. Additionally, the Masters Village made its debut, providing a platform for future host cities to promote their upcoming Masters Games events, fostering a sense of anticipation and excitement among participants and organisers alike.

 

Adding to the festivities, the second day also witnessed the spectacular opening ceremony, uniting thousands of masters athletes from various disciplines. A vibrant parade led them from the main square to the stadium, where IMGA president Sergey Bubka officially declared the competition open. The crowd was treated to performances from acappella group Rajaton, professional dancers (Lunddance), and acrobats (Akron Taika). DJ Juissi kept the audience grooving with the summer’s top hits.

Moving into the third day, the Games expanded further with the arrival of Weightlifting, Badminton, Shooting, and Football. Athletes displayed their skills and dedication, pushing their limits in pursuit of victory and personal triumph.

Looking ahead, the next three days promise an adrenaline-packed line-up of events including Golf, Rowing, Volleyball, Cycling, Canoe Slalom, Karate, and Squash.
