The deadline for submitting applications for the 2024 Winter World Masters Games has now passed and the IMGA has received one full bid from the Region Lombardia in Italy.
This region is one of the regions where the 2026 Winter Olympic Games will take place.

The next phase involves a thorough review by the IMGA of the city’s potential to organise the 2024 Winter World Masters Games. The IMGA will study the Bid Proposal followed by an evaluation visit late Summer. The Games will be very compact as the sports will be organised in 2 clusters: one in Ponte di Legno-Tonale (snow cluster) and the second one in Val Chiavenna-Madesimo (ice cluster).

With a strong focus on sustainability, they are planning on organising “plastic free” IMGA Masters Games. All athletes and officials will get a bottle to refill. Additionally, all disposable material will be produced in eco-friendly material and in biodegradable packaging.
To reduce the ecological impact, the focus will be to collaborate with local businesses and providers as much as possible, and they are planning to collaborate with the Coldiretti (National Association of the agricultural producers) to offer sustainable food to the guests.

The sports that are currently proposed in the bid are: Alpine skiing, Biathlon, Curling, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Ski Mountaineering, Ski Orienteering, Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined, Snow Polo & Speed Skating.

The IMGA is looking forward to this evaluation and will announce the appointment of the city/region in September folllowing an IMGA board meeting.
